Privacy Policy for Atlas

Camille Haïdar ("we," "our," or "us") built Atlas as a freemium iOS app. This Privacy Policy explains how Atlas handles your information. The short version: Atlas processes everything on your device, and we operate no server that receives, stores, or sees your data. Your photos never leave your iPhone. To turn photo coordinates into place names, Atlas works offline wherever possible and, in some cases, uses Apple's geocoding service (see Section 2).

By using Atlas, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

1. Information We Collect

We do not collect, transmit, or store your personal information on any server. Atlas has no backend, no accounts, and no login.

To provide its features, Atlas accesses the following on your device only:

• Your photo library (with your permission). Atlas reads your photos and their metadata — such as location (geotags) and dates — to place your memories on a map and surface your places and anniversaries. Your photos and their metadata are processed locally and are never uploaded to us or anyone else.
• Location derived from your photos. Atlas does not use GPS or track your live location. The only location data it uses is the coordinates already embedded in your photos.
• App settings. Preferences you set (such as your name and home city entered during onboarding) are stored locally on your device. They are not transmitted to us.

Information We Do NOT Collect

• We do not collect personal information.
• We do not require account creation or a login.
• We do not use analytics, advertising, or any tracking.
• We do not track you across other apps or websites.
• We do not use any third-party SDKs that collect data.

2. How Your Information Is Used

Information is used solely on your device to:

• Place your geotagged photos on the map and build your "places" and "memories."
• Resolve place names (city/country) for your photos. Most of this is done fully offline using a place-name dataset bundled inside the app. In some cases, a photo's coordinates may be sent to Apple's reverse-geocoding service (CLGeocoder) to obtain a place name. That request is handled by Apple under Apple's own privacy policy; Atlas does not receive or store anything beyond the resulting place name, which is cached on your device.
• Show you optional local notifications (e.g., when your recap is ready). These are scheduled on your device; no notification data is sent to us.

We do not use your information to sell data, build advertising profiles, or make automated decisions about you.

3. How Your Information Is Shared

We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal information, because we never receive it. The only third parties involved are Apple, in two limited ways:

• Apple reverse-geocoding (CLGeocoder), as described in Section 2, to turn coordinates into place names. Governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
• Apple's App Store / StoreKit, which processes any subscription purchases (see Section 5). Apple handles all payment information; we never see your payment details.

4. Data Storage and Security

All Atlas data — your photos, derived map data, place-name cache, and settings — stays on your device, protected by iOS's built-in security. Because we operate no server of our own and do not collect your data, there is no off-device copy of your information held by us to lose or expose. (The only exception is the transient coordinate-to-place-name lookups Apple performs for us, described in Section 2.) You can remove all locally stored Atlas data at any time by deleting the app.

5. Subscriptions

Atlas offers an optional auto-renewable subscription, "Atlas Plus," sold and processed by Apple through the App Store (StoreKit). All payment processing is handled by Apple under your Apple Account; we never receive or store your payment information. Apple's handling of this data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

6. Your Rights

Because Atlas does not collect or store your personal data on any server, there is no personal data held by us to access, correct, export, or delete. Deleting the app removes all on-device data. For any privacy questions, contact us at camille.haidar.pro@gmail.com; we will respond within 30 days.

For European Union / EEA Residents (GDPR)

• Processing: Atlas processes photo metadata locally on your device to provide the functionality you requested. We do not collect, transmit, or store this data on our systems, and we perform no profiling.
• Lawful basis: Performance of the service you requested (and your consent to photo-library access, revocable anytime in iOS Settings).
• Your rights: You retain all GDPR rights (access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection). As we hold no personal data about you, these are satisfied by the on-device nature of the app; deleting the app erases all data.
• Complaints: You may lodge a complaint with your local Data Protection Authority. In France, this is the CNIL (www.cnil.fr).

For California Residents (CCPA)

We do not collect or sell your personal information, and therefore provide no "Do Not Sell or Share" link. Contact us at the email above with any questions.

7. Children's Privacy

Atlas is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. As Atlas collects no personal information from anyone, no child data is collected.

8. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date above and post the revised policy at the same URL where you accessed this document. Your continued use of Atlas after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
